The family
Karinka is the daughter of Fedor and Hana. They live in Terchova. The dreamy little town in northern Slovakia hardly offers any work. Dad and mom work for a South Korean car
manufacturer. They don’t earn five euros an hour. Both are often put on short-time work.
Because of age. Fedor works in the warehouse, Hana in the company canteen at the cash register.
Karinka wants to leave this misery. She talked to her friends. All work in Austria or in restaurants and hostels on the roads used by tourists. They often talk about their earnings.
The friends who work in Austria speak the sky. And that attracts Karinka. You can earn twice as much. The family needs the money.
One of her friends, Etela, works in the Upper Inn
Valley. She got Karinka a job at the Hotel Lange Route.
Karinka’s sister, Edita, works near Vienna. In a well-known American diner. The second sister, Gizela, is still studying. In Bratislava.
She wants to be a dentist. The studies consumes the family’s entire income.
